Iceman 4 Review

And.. Iceman #4 continues the trend that we've seen before. Thankfully the art gets a little better in this issue, but story is still lacking. So kid from issue 2 earlier who is apparently "Zack Attack" now has run off with Daken because he wasn't happy at the school for some reason? And can now use his powers openly. This really made no sense especially since the kid wasn't developed at all. We have Bobby talking about how this kid is all about gaming and living in his room, but Zack wants to be free and see the world? Honestly this just shows how little Bobby really knows about this kid and how he SUCKS as a teacher and as a guidance for future X-Men. We saw this before and it's really disheartening in his own title to see Bobby being so.. incompetent. We should be building him up, not tearing him down. So anyhow Bobby comes up with some scheme to get the kid back by wearing a suit. He runs into Daken, serial rapist, out of no where and realizes the kid has

Comic recommendations: Nazi Smashing

Here's a list I've cobbled together of great comic stories where Nazis get smashed. Mind you this is not going to be a list of things like the silly America blindly throws herself into a time portal to go back and change her own history, ends up in World War II and randomly punches Hitler, who is on the battlefield for completely unknown and unexplained reasons. Nope, this is unadulterated Nazi smashing and destroying. Some are just fun and some are more thought provoking. So now.. onto the list! Time Bomb   by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Paul Gulacy - Time Bomb is a sci-fi fun adventure where a group of modern day military men and women are sent back in time to Nazi Germany to stop a fail safe weapon created to destroy the world if the Nazis lose. It's insane fun. Don't expect too much depth or anything in this story. Just run with the fun of smashing Nazis and blowing them up. It's seriously Inglorious Basterds  type fun, only with sci-fi elements and mo

Quickly put together To be read Picture

This is my quickly put together To be read pile. It is by no means completely, but.. We have: Madman and the Atomics by Michael Allred Madman volumes 1-3 by Michael Allred Superman The Golden Age vol 1 (trade, not omnibus) Mockingbird Bobbi Morse Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Miracleman/Marvelman Book 1-3 by Original Writer and The Golden age by Neil Gaiman Roy Thomas Presents Planet Comics vol 1 Vampirella Archives vol 1 Shang Chi, Master of Kng Fu volumes 2 and 3 (4 has already been pre-ordered) Tomb of Dracula omnibus vol 3 Wonder Woman The Golden Age omnibus vol 2 And again, this is no where near complete. I have read Miracelman before, but not since it has been collected in trades, so that's why it's here..

Iceman #3

So we're back again and I finally read Iceman #3.. And I have to say that I went into it with huge fears that it was only going to be a long build up for Bobby to come out to his parents and thankfully it tried that route and discarded it for a slightly better comic.. And I do mean slightly. Let's start off with the cover. Again, there is nothing remotely amazing or interesting about this cover. It tells us everything that's happening in the comic, but that's about it.. We've got Bobby with his parents in a picture, signifying him returning to speak with his parents again and then a Purifier holding Bobby down with a gun. That's about it. I mean it definitely sells the story, but that's also what makes it incredibly sad and boring. Now onto the story, first thing in the book we get a page of Bobby outside his parent's new house and him texting all his friends to tell them he is gay. This is just.. odd. Most of them are X-Men and the X-Men have been an

Marvel comics changes going forward

I first want to state openly that this is not to change anyone's opinions or change anyone else's reading habits. This is merely to be open and honest. I have recently discovered that one of the books I recommended and love Unstoppable Wasp  has been cancelled as of issue 8. The first trade is due out, according to Amazon, on September 12th. That means the book was cancelled before it even had a chance to get to a library. This is not the first time Marvel has done this. Great Lakes Avengers was cancelled right before it's trade came out as well as numerous others.  This hurts libraries and does not allow them a chance to have their voices heard especially in areas where the community has no comic book store or a population that is not likely to spend money on books or comic books. But that is not all, it hurts comic fans, new and old, as they begin to love a story or character and Marvel cancels it before it even has a chance. It has also stopped me from reading a number o

Queer characters and comic books

I'm going to start this out by saying it openly again that I am a gay man. So I have some knowledge/experience on this subject, though not by all means all of it since everyone has their own experiences. But let's talk about comic books and queer characters or really queerness of long running comic characters. There has been a desire for many people, a lot of whom are not queer, to demand that certain characters be made queer or to explain how a certain character is queer or even to deny the queerness of a character for various reasons. Let's stop all this. No, I'm sorry, but no matter what Claremont may have hinted Kitty Pryde is not currently a queer character. She may have been intended as such (which I've never read anything that lends to that reading myself, but Claremont supposedly hinted it.. maybe she's as bisexual/lesbian as she is Jewish?).. but right now Kitty Pryde identifies herself as straight. If she decides to come out later as bisexual or
